At the Bocca del Vulcano Restaurant of Santu Lussurgiu is the headquarters of the Centro Documentazione Trekking Sardegna (Sardinian Trekking Documentation Center - Fax: 0783/550974 - Cell. 0349/3717885 - e-mail: uguerra@tinscalinet.it). The Center furnishes indications and information on the archeological, historical-artistic, ethnographic, naturalistic and environmental features of Montiferru, plans differentiated itineraries and guarantees top-level assistance for excursions, also off the beaten trail, in Montiferru. Already in 1989, when the word trekking was used in Sardinia only by a small circle of enthusiasts, the Centro Documentazione Trekking Sardegna was being founded at Santu Lussurgiu, in affiliation with the national C.D.T. of the same name located at Sala Baganza (PR). In collaboration with the Santu Lussurgiu High School the Association has planned, traversed and documented a series of itineraries in Montiferru, some of which have been published in "La Rivista del Trekking". Among these are The Volcanic Massif of Montiferru (n° 27, March 1989), republished under the same title in the "Speciale Oristano" of the following year; Beyond the volcano towards the sea (n° 61, November-December 1992), which allowed the "A. Segni" Junior High School of Santu Lussurgiu to win first place in the VII National Edition of the contest for the best itinerary of historical-artistic, wine-tasting and naturalistic trekking, and to receive the congratulations of the then Minister of Public Education and the Under Secretary of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers on the occasion of the awarding of the prizes in connection with the Quota800 Fair. This itinerary was then republished in tens of thousands of copies on October 9, 1993 in the "Speciale Oristano" (supplement to n° 9 of "La Rivista del Trekking", and, in 1994, also by the WWF ITALIA in its CamminaSardegna (Edizioni Ambiente). In the following years the Centro Documentazione Trekking Sardegna planned, traversed and documented numerous other itineraries mainly in Montiferru, but also on Gennargentu and Supramonte. It has also organized, in collaboration with operators in the fields of tourism, commerce and local crafts, six editions of the Montiferru Trekking Prize, allowing numerous school groups, Associations and Brotherhoods coming from all over the Island as well as from the Continent to visit Santu Lussurgiu and Montiferru, participating in planning the best itinerary for historical-artistic, wine-tasting and naturalistic trekking. These activities, in addition to exerting a vital educational impact on young people in particular, have significantly incremented the presence of visitors to the territory in low season, while simultaneously making it possible to list and valorize the numerous archeological and environmental features of Montiferru, to collect and catalogue the many itineraries planned, to be used for the future publication of a true guide to Trekking in Montiferru. Some of these itineraries, revised and updated, are housed in the site and can be clicked on from the home page. |
